Linen and linen blends
Linen is the defining fabric of resort and summer ranges: breathable, textured and better with every wash. Blends with cotton or viscose soften it and reduce creasing.
- Typical weight
- Typically 120-200 GSM for garments
- Handle
- Crisp when new, softening with washing; natural slub texture.
Best for
- Shirts, shirt dresses and co-ord sets
- Wide trousers and relaxed blazers
- Resort and holiday ranges
Watch out for
- Linen creases; that is part of its character, but blends crease less
- Garment washing changes size and handle, so sample with the wash
What to specify
- Fibre composition (100% linen or blend ratio)
- Weight (GSM)
- Wash: none, enzyme or stone wash
- Shrinkage tolerance after wash
Linen and linen blends, answered.
- Should a linen range be garment washed?
- Garment washing gives the soft, lived-in handle most buyers want and pre-shrinks the piece. It must be built into the sample, because it changes measurements.
