Viscose and rayon
Viscose (also called rayon) is valued for drape and colour: it takes prints brilliantly and falls in soft, fluid lines.
- Typical weight
- Typically 90-140 GSM for challis and crepe
- Handle
- Soft, cool and fluid, with excellent drape.
Best for
- Printed maxi and midi dresses
- Bias-cut skirts and slip dresses
- Blouses and resort sets
Watch out for
- Viscose can shrink and lose strength when wet; set wash tests and care labels accordingly
- Bias cuts need careful handling to hang evenly
What to specify
- Construction: challis, crepe, twill or slub
- Weight (GSM)
- Shrinkage limit and wash test
- Print method and colour fastness
