From Trial Run to Bulk: Scaling a Clothing Style

How to scale a clothing style from a small trial run to bulk production: what to keep, what changes, and how to re-order without surprises.

Why start small

A trial run tests demand, fit on real customers and the supplier relationship, before you tie up cash in depth. The goal is to learn fast and re-order the winners.

Keep the approved standard

When a style sells, re-order against the same approved pattern, fabric quality and PP sample. Changing fabric or construction for the re-order effectively makes it a new style.

What changes at scale

Larger orders can justify custom colours, custom trims and better unit pricing, and they need longer fabric lead times. Plan re-orders early so fabric is ready when you need it.

Stay with one supplier

Moving a proven style to a new factory means new samples, new fit risk and a new learning curve. A supplier that handles both small runs and bulk removes that step.

Questions buyers also ask.

Will my unit price drop when I re-order more?
Usually, because fixed costs spread over more pieces and fabric can be bought more efficiently. Ask for a price break table at the quote stage.
